Brad Thor was born as Bradley George Thor Jr. on August 21, 1969, in Chicago, Illinois. Nothing much about his parent is shared with the media. His parents divorced when he was eight years old.

After completing his High School, Thor joined the University of Southern California and studied creative writing under author T.C. Boyle. Thor announced his candidacy for President of the United States in the 2020 election but soon dropped his name.
