Gainsbourg lost her father, Serge Gainsbourg to a heart attack on March 2, 1991. He was 62 years old at the time of his death. His bad smoking and alcoholic habit were blamed for the heart attack. He was a chain smoker and reportedly smoked five packs of cigarettes daily.

This wasn't Serge Gainsbourg's only heart attack because his first attack happened in May 1973. He was 45 years old at the time.
