The incident occurred in Days Inn Hotel. The Amor Prohibido singer, Selena, had discovered that Yolanda had been mismanaging her finances for her benefit. The confrontation between the two happened, and in rage, Yolanda took a gun out and shot Selena. 

Selena was immediately rushed to CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi - Memorial in Corpus Christi, where she was announced dead. The arrest of Yolanda took almost 10 hours as she wasn't ready to be arrested. Eventually, she was arrested, presented to the court, and served a life sentence in prison in Gatesville, Texas.
