Inside Sloane Stephens' Married Life with Her Husband

Sloane Stephens was 9 when she first held a tennis racket, 13 when she started competing in low-level competitions. Today, the Amercian tennis player, who turned 30 earlier this year, stands tall as a Gram Slam winner, and seven-time WTA Tour singles winner, making her one of the most promising tennis stars to forward to.  

Born on March 20, 1993, in Plantation, Florida, to skilled and prominent athletes, swimmer Sybill Smith, and NFL player John Stephens, one doesn't need to look far to wonder where Sloane gets her athletic flair from. Stephens has been married to soccer player Jozy Altidore since 2022.

The tennis player and her husband are by far one of the youngest power couples in sports. The athletes have been married since 2022 and needless to say, are still in their young marriage bliss. 

While Sloane holds title of a Gram Slam winner, and her husband, Altidore, is a two-time winner of the title, U.S. Player of the Year. Some might assume that the sports stars have tied the knot in a whim, given their young age, and rocketing career, but Sloane and Jozy go way back.  

The tennis player met her now-husband as a kid. Sloane was reportedly in the fifth grade at the Boca Prep International School at the time when Altidore was studying in seventh grade. The childhood friends lost touch Stephens relocated to Fresno. The pair's stars aligned over a decade later in 2016.  

The long-separated friends' meet-cute at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, took a romantic turn somewhere, and the pair started dating in discreet before the words eventually got out. The tennis player and the soccer player announced their engagement in April 2019.  

"Forever yes," Stephens wrote on a loved-up post of herself and Jozy, who gushingly recounted the cutest proposal he'd set for Sloane. The soccer player reportedly took Sloane to an art gallery where he'd invited her family and friends to witness the moment. Jozy even had the gallery decorated with huge canvases of photos of their relationship over the years.

Stephens and Jozy didn't want to waste any time to start their happily ever after, but life had other plans. As the Covid pandemic hit in 2020, the couple's plan to jump-start their marital life was indefinitely postponed. But after much waiting and uncertainly, the day finally came.  

The so-in-love pair walked down the aisle on January 1, 2022, at the St. Regis Bal Harbour in Miami Beach, Florida. In the images, exclusively shared by People, Sloane looked divine as she donned a custom, beaded Galia Lahav couture gown, and over the moon as she held her man close.  

The former Gram Slam winner and her groom took all the measures to adhere with the Covid protocols. "It's one of those moments that I know will live in my mind forever and time will stand still when I see her," Altidore said of their dreamy wedding and his bride's gorgeous attire.

Sloane's husband of two years, Jozy, is a notable name in sports, but is there anything else about the soccer player that you're probably missing out on? Definitely, for starters, Altidore is already a doting father to one. The soccer player has an 8-year-old son from his previous relationship, and the kid has fit perfectly in the duo's married life.   

Jozy's playing career includes stints in numerous clubs, including New York Red Bulls, Villarreal CF, Sunderland, Toronto FC, New England Revolution, and more. Standing tall at 6.1 ft, Altidore has also represented the U.S.A at several international competitions.  

Altidore isn't just sticking with his soccer career. The New Jersey-born athlete, alongside his thriving career, is also taking interests in other skills, and fields, including business. Jozy graduated with a degree in business administration from Southern New Hampshire University in 2021.  

"I'm a very competitive guy and it's really important that I have a degree to fall back on," Jozy said in his statement while asserting the importance of education. The doting father is an ardent philanthropist and has been eloquent about creating equality in education and health sector. Jozy and his wife have partnered with various organizations to contribute to a better world.  

The athletes couple were even honored with a Hope Award for their efforts. "It was truly an honor last night to have received the Hope Award alongside my husband @jozyaltidore for our work with @hopeforhaiti where we built a school," Sloane wrote on Instagram while sharing the noble victory.
