Initially, he was at the Alicia and Team Adam team but later on, the team Blake. He went through the live shows, lost his battle against Christian Cuevas, and was taken onto Team Adam. He lost his knockout round to Riley Elmore and was taken onto Team Blake. He did not get many votes to be saved, leaving him to be a coach's choice together with Courtney Harrell and Dana Harper. At last, Blake saved Courtney.

He also took part in the 19th season of American Idol, where the judges were Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan. His performance on February 14 auditioning with Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On?" received a standing ovation and golden ticket with all judges appreciating him.
