Kali Uchis, born as Karly Marina Loaiza, on July 17, 1994, in Alexandria, Virginia, grew up multicultural, as she came from Colombian and English descent. She lived in Colombia and the United States throughout her childhood, something that greatly influenced her bilingual and genre-fusion music style. Kali had a tough childhood; at 17, she set out on her own and slept in her car, doing odd jobs to attempt to get by, but pursuing her dream of a career as an artist. Adversity fueled her passion and creativity, which then created the platform for her unique sound. 

Personal Life 

Identifying as openly bisexual, Kali Uchis is an LGBTQ+ rights activist who fights for visibility and stands on principles of being open and authentic about her identity and experiences. Kali Uchis started her career with the independent release of the mixtape "Drunken Babble" in 2012, an album that introduced her distinct dreamy R&B. She achieved her breakthrough with the EP "Por Vida" in 2015, which featured collaborations with such prominent artists as Diplo and Tyler, the Creator. In 2018, she unveiled her debut studio album "Isolation" on Virgin EMI, combining R&B, funk, soul, pop, and Latin elements to a high of number 34 on the Billboard 200.
