On November 16, 1976, Kathy Prinze's third husband Freddie Prinze was arrested for driving under the influence of Quaaludes. There were also rumors of drug misuse and Freddie having depression. Weeks later, Kathy filed for divorce and even went as far as to ask for a restraining order.

This was under a tough time in Freddie's life. He had been working with no breaks for years and using prescribed drugs. According to sources, he was under a lot of stress and pressure. Freddie got the divorce papers with Kathy's legal demands in the same time frame as his suicide.

The Tragic Suicide Of Freddie Prinze Later Ruled An Accident

Kathy's husband Prinze committed suicide on 28 January 1977 from a self-inflicted gunshot similar to Kellie Pickler's Husband Kyle Jacobs's suicide. Prinze was later rushed to the UCLA Medical Center and placed on life support following emergency surgery.

Sadly, Prinze did not make it and he was taken off life support on 29 January 1977 at 1 pm. At the time of his passing, he was survived by his parents, Karl and Maria Pruetzel, his infant son Freddie Prinze Jr., and his estranged wife Kathy Prinze.

In 1983, Prinze death was ruled as an accident due to various reasons by a jury and his family got his life insurance paid out. The family sued his doctors and psychiatrist.

Later, Prinze's family was paid about a million dollars by doctors and psychiatrists. It was for their negligence in prescribing Prinze so many Quaaludes and allowing him access to a gun.

Kathy Prinze Lawsuit About Husband's Death

Kathy Prinze has been a part of lawsuits ever since the death of her third husband Freddie Prinze. She, along with her mother-in-law and her husband's former managers brought suits against Crown Life Insurance Co. and Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Co.

In the end, the lawsuits paid out as the jury declared that Freddi's death was accidental and due to a prescription drug haze.
