Matthew Gilmour is a Scottish native who works in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints/Mormon. He came into the limelight of media when he tied the knot with American Elizabeth Smart, a kidnapping survivor, child safety activist, and reporter for A.B.C. News. 

Also, She is the founder of the Elizabeth Smart Foundation since 2011, which works against sexual harassment, crimes, and violence to children, especially for girls.

Matthew exchanged the marriage vows with Elizabeth, his long-time sweetheart, on February 18, 2012. They held their wedding in a private ceremony in the Laie Hawaii Temple on the north beach of Oahu, Hawaii.

Elizabeth grew up with her five siblings: Edward, William, Charles, Andrew, and Mary-Katherine. As bypassing the time, she was growing as any normal teenage girl, but on June 5, 2002, Brian David Mitchell and his wife, Wanda Barzee, kidnapped Elizabeth at knifepoint in the middle of the night from her house.

After she was kidnapped, Elizabeth was raped, tortured, abused, and drugged by her kidnappers. Finally, on March 12, 2003, a Local police officer rescued Elizabeth in Utah. Later, Michell and her wife were arrested. The husband and wife criminal duo are currently serving their jail time. 

Also, a movie titled I am Elizabeth, directed by Sarah Walker, which covers the story of Elizabeth's kidnapping, was released in 2017.

Matthew Gilmour was born in 1991 in Aberdeen, Scotland, raised by his father, Stewart Gilmour, and mother, Kay Gilmour. The detail of when he celebrates his birthday is still under wraps.

Talking about his parent's profession, they were a professional music teacher at St Machar Academy. His father played flugelhorn with a brass band, whereas his mother is the head of music.
