On March 12, 2021, Meyers Leonard made headlines, but not for good reasons. He used an anti-semitic statement during a Twitch live stream. During the live video, the Miami Heat center heard screaming, "F—-ing cowards; don't f—-ing snipe me, you f—-ing k—- b——."

Leonard afterward posted an apologetic message. Soon after his regret surfaced, Twitch banned Leonard. Subsequently, the NBA fined him $50,000 and restricted him from using any of the Miami Heat's facilities or participating in any of their events for a week. Later, the Thunder released Meyer after Heat Trade.

Meyers Leonard was born in Woodbridge, Virginia, on February 27, 1992. His father, Jim Leonard, was a golf pro by profession, and his mother, Tracie Leonard, was an athlete. His father died in a freak bicycle accident when he was only six years old.
