Rounds were found dead unexpectedly at her home in Florida on 11 September 2017. According to the Orange County Sheriff, she was discovered at 7:07 on the morning of September eleven. Her death was ruled a suicide, and the causes of death were intoxication by amitriptyline, clonazepam, and quetiapine.

Rounds were 46 years old at the time of her demise. After the news hit the headline, Rosie said, 

"I am saddened to hear about this tragedy. Mental illness is a severe issue affecting many families. My thoughts and prayers go out to Michelle's family, her wife, and their child."

Michelle's funeral was public, and her family held a private memorial service.
