Patricia Cohen

Patricia Cohen was born in 1936 and raised up in Minnesota state of The United States of America who died at the age of 81, on July 16, 2018, in Marlborough. She was a clinical Epidemiology professor in Psychiatry at Colombia University College of physicians and surgeons and the New York State Psychiatric Institute.

Dr. Cohen was a midcareer research psychologist at Colombia University. She tracked the mental health of a large group of children as they grew up to adulthood, clarifying the history of psychiatric problems. Cohen helped them overcome mental health problems for future long-term studies. 

She received her Ph.D. in Social Psychology from New York University, and later, along with her husband, Jacob Cohen, she wrote multiple regression analyses.

She is famous for her text on multiple regression analyses written with her partner. For around 200 articles published, onset and course of mental illness based on her 30 years of research education. According to the New York Times, she suspected the history of psychiatric problems of a huge group, namely "Children in the Community" (CIC) study, one of the longest-running of its time.

The Explorer

Cohen took up the kids in the early 1980s to chart up their mental health conditions. According to a Times writer, the earlier psychiatrists knew little about how mental problems emerge out and affect our development. For this purpose, Cohen visited again to the children over time to known about their mental wellbeing as they grow.

Creating a Methodology

Dr. Patricia Cohen was known for identifying changes in kids' mental health and tracking how parenting styles affected their moods. During her research, Cohen found correlations between the level of discipline from parents and mental health. Those who were punished badly had worse moods. Also, she found that with time, mental health challenges could change.
