Dale Robertson, aka Dayle Lymoine Robertson, was born on July 14, 1923, in Harrah, Oklahoma, United States as the son of Varval Robertson and Melvin Robertson. He enrolled in Oklahoma Military Academy in Claremore and fought several matches in the ring as a professional boxer. 

In the Second World War, he fought for his country as part of the United States Army 322nd Combat Engineer Battalion of the 97th Infantry Division in Europe. He was awarded a bronze and a silver medal for his work.

In 1948, he started his on-screen acting career with an uncredited role in the comedy-drama and family movie, The Boy with Green Hair. After his first movie, he did not get much attention from the public and was only given some small and uncredited roles for a few years. 

In 1951, he appeared in the Take Care of My Little Girl drama movie portraying the role of Joe Blake. He performed the role of one of the lead characters in that movie alongside Jean Peters, Mitzi Gaynor, and Jeanne Crain.
