Tom Knapp was an American exhibition sharpshooter who had achieved many world records for hand-thrown clay targets. He was a target master in his living days. Because of his excellent sharpshooting skills, he got the opportunities to travel the whole of the United States and the world for showing his trick-shooting exhibitions over the decades.

Benelli's American Birdhunter host, Knapp was in a romantic relationship with his beautiful wife, Colleen Knapp. The pair walked down the aisle in a quiet nuptial, where they greeted their family, relatives, and some close friends as well.

The married couple celebrated their 14th anniversary in April 2013 before Tom's demise. Furthermore, Knapp had two stepchildren through Colleen's previous marital affair. He also became the grandfather of four grandchildren. So, the sharpshooter's pride and joy were his four grandchildren who loved watching him as an exhibition shooter a lot.

On the other hand, Tom made several television appearances, which paid him a handsome sum of paychecks. He appeared on various TV channels, including The History Channel and Outdoor Channel. Besides, he also served as the host of Benelli's reality show, American Birdhunter for overall 8 seasons.

Tom Knapp's Early Life

A sharpshooter was born as Thomas J. Knapp on 30th September 1950, in Maple Plain, Minnesota, the United States. Furthermore, he grew up with his brother, John Knapp under the parenthood of Howard Knapp and Virginia Knapp.

When Knapp was 9 years old, his father gave him his first gun named “a Daisy Red Ryder BB gun”. Similarly, he saw a performance on television by Mr. Parsons, who was famous for snap-shooting tricks when he was 10. So, like tossing three marbles into the air and shattering them with three shots which set out the direction in Knapp’s life.

Sharpshooter Tom has achieved the best 3 world records of his life for hand-thrown clay targets. He initially sets out his first World record by shooting within less than 2 seconds with his M1 Super 90 in 1993. Moreover, he threw eight clay targets in the air with his pump shotgun in one hand within 1.87 seconds in 2000. With 12-ga M2 Field semi-auto shotgun, he launched ten clay targets into the air with one hand within 2.2 seconds in 2004.

One of Knapp's Benelli shotgun shots videotape gained the most views on YouTube in 2007, where he is firing from his pump-action weapon from the behind of his back and from over of his head, each time hitting his airborne targets. In one scene, he hurls his shotgun into the air, flings a clay target skyward behind him and catches his gun, and fires by leaving an orange puff of dust.

Is Shooting Star Tom Knapp Still Alive or Dead?

The Minnesota-based sharpshooter, Knapp took his last breath at the age of 62 on Friday, 26th April 2013, in Rochester Minnesota, the United States at St. Mary’s Hospital at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Three years before his demise, he was suffering from many medical problems and the cause of his death was pulmonary fibrosis.

There was no funeral service because Tom did not wish to have it. Later, all of his family and friends arrived for the burial service at 1 p.m. on 11th May 2013 at the Del Tone/Luth Gun Club in St. Cloud. Although Tom did not want to have a funeral, the Knapp family decided to gather for memorial service at the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
