Tony Hawk has been married four times: The skateboarder has four children!
Regarded as one of the most influential skateboarders of all time, Tony Hawk, 55, globally hailed by his elite nickname, Birdman, is also an entrepreneur, and the owner of skateboard company, Birdhouse. Often credited for bringing the sport into the mainstream, Hawk retired from his professional competing career in 2003.
Skateboarding, a rollercoaster action sport, originated in the States in the 40s and has remained and transcended as a cultural phenomenon, with Hawk, as one of its pioneers, along with a few others, steering its imminent fate. Tony brought widespread notice to the sport with the video game series, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, which debuted on PlayStation in 1999.
Inside Tony Hawk's Personal Life!
Tony Hawk's relentless quest for success isn't limited to his professional endeavors. The skateboarder shares the same fervor and enthusiasm in his personal life. Hawk has been married four times and divorced thrice. The pioneer of modern vertical skateboarding admits that his first three marriages failed because of his busy career.
Hawk's first wife was his high school sweetheart, Cindy Dunbar. Instead of leaving it up to the press's imagination, the skateboarder has been candid about the factors that ended his three marriages. The Birdman's first nuptial with Cindy failed because it was hasty. "Neither of us was ready for adult life," said Tony.
The couple tied the knot in April 1990, welcomed their son, Riley, in December 1992, and finalized their divorce in 1993. Tony didn't jumpstart another romance following the end of his first nuptial. He is believed to have been single until he met his future second wife, Erin Lee, in 1996.
Hawk and Lee walked down the aisle in September 1996. The couple welcomed two sons, Spencer, and Keegan, before going their separate ways in 2004. Citing the reason behind their split, the Birdhouse owner said his "travel schedule and obligations definitely affected" the marriage.
Hawk said "I do" for the third time in 2006. His third wife, Lhotse Merriam, had more in common with the skateboarder than his first two wives. Merriam worked as a crew member on Peak Experience, ESPN X-Games, and ESPN Sports shows, and was able to connect with the Birdman on a deeper level. But the third time didn't turn out to be a charm either.
The couple welcomed one daughter, Kadence Clover Hawk, and ended their marriage after five years in 2011. The legendary skateboarder had no one to blame but himself, yet, again. Hawk was reportedly having an affair with Cathy Goodman, who was his BFF and business partner Matt Goodman's wife at the time.
Tony Hawk is Married to His Fourth Wife, Catherine Goodman!
When Hawk's infidelity to his third wife and betrayal of his best friend came to the surface in 2011, the setbacks threaten to derail some of Hawk's projects at the time. Fans' disappointment in the iconic sportsman was another setback for the Birdman. It was later revealed that Hawk's now-wife, Catherine, had been estranged from Matt for a while when Tony started pursuing her.
Still, the pioneer skateboarder should've known better than to go after his best friend's estranged wife. Amid the brewing criticism against Hawk, his BFF, Goodman, released a statement that seemingly took the heat off of Hawk a little bit. "Life can be strange but I bear no grudges. I know people will think it is strange but I'm totally cool with it," Matt said about Hawk dating his former wife.
Hawk and Catherin kept their romance low-key and discreet for the next few years and eventually tied the knot on June 27, 2015, in Limerick, Ireland. While Hawk has four kids from his first three marriages, Catherine, shares two kids with Matt. "We have a unique approach to parenting. We truly enjoy the challenges of raising children," said the skateboarder.
Tony Hawk's Children!
Hawk has had quite an adventurous life and needless to say, the Birdman has passed down his talents and life lessons to his four kids. Hawk's oldest, Riley, 29, is a pro skater. Riley may not have garnered the best skateboarder title by the age of 25 like his father, but the guy is doing pretty well for himself.
Riley was named the Best Am (Amateur) in 2013 by Skateboarder Magazine and became a pro a year later in 2014. His playing style also made a way into his dad's video game Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2. Also, a talented musician, Riley has been dating Kurt Cobain’s daughter Frances Bean Cobain for a while now.
Hawk's second child, Spencer, 23, surely has an innate knack for skateboarding but he isn't venturing into the sport. Instead, he has been honing his musical skills. Spencer has released four albums and has worked with Charli XCX and Dylan Brady.
The Birdman's third son, Keegan, 21, is yet to decide on his future path. But his dad is certain that the kid will follow in his footsteps. Keegan was "raised skating" and undoubtedly knows the game in and out. Tony's third of the brood has a knack for photography as he often portrays his skills on social media.
Hawk's only daughter, Kadence, is into skating!
Hawk's youngest is Kadence, who is his only daughter. Kadence is also into skates but Tony remains doubtful of his daughter's future in the game. "I think she enjoys it more as an activity for us to do together," Hawk once said while ruling out skating as a career for one more of four kids. Tony is also a doting stepdad to his wife's two kids, Miles, and Calvin Goodman.
