Who is Oscar De La Hoya Dating? Inside His Love Life

Oscar De La Hoya has been married once: The former world champion is a father to six!  

Known as The Golden Boy during his boxing career, which spans a glorious 16 years, Oscar De La Hoya fought 45 times, winning a staggering 39 of the matches. Hoya's career feats also include ten world titles in six weight classes. After achieving all possible titles inside the ring, Hoya achieved as much recognition outside of the ring as a boxing promoter.  

Born on February 4, 1973, in East Los Angeles, California, into a boxing family, Oscar's recently released documentary, The Golden Boy, explores his life from the start. In the two-part documentary, Oscar describes his stint in the sport as a result of his innate flair instead of a driven passion. "I never loved boxing, I was just good at it," says the retired boxer.

Like many celebrities overdosed on fame and power, Oscar once delved down a hedonistic path in search of peace amid the chaos. The former boxer found momentary escape in drugs, sex, and alcohol. Years away from the limelight has seemingly helped Oscar to come to terms with himself.   

"I'm making myself happy for the first time ever," says Hoya, who has been in a stable relationship with Holly Sonders since 2021. Not that Oscar's proclaimed transformation is directly linked to his love life but we'd like to believe that it's interlinked.  

"I have a woman by my side who makes me feel like King Kong," the retired boxer said, adding, It's motivating. It really is." Oscar's queen, Sonders, a sports broadcaster, has been with him through the thick and thin in recent years. When Oscar was disgraced in a sexual assault lawsuit in April 2022, Holly showed her beau unwavering support as he denied all allegations made against him by his former employee.   

The couple met in 2021 when Sonders interviewed the former world champion at a boxing event. Given the pair's harmonizing professions and shared interests, Oscar and Holly started dating soon. Months into their low-profile dating bliss, Sonders showed her faith in the boxer in an unconventional way, shocking some, and making many believe her true feelings for Oscar. 

In November 2021, the sports broadcaster revealed a tattoo of her beau. The permanent ink on Sonders' back shows the iconic moment of Hoya winning the gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics. The boxing promoter has since gushed about his lady love a number of times.

"I love you to the moon and back, only we know what we have and I'm proud to say that you will be my legacy," Oscar wrote in a recent birthday tribute to Sonders. He further described in the post how Sonders and her genuine love for him was the only thing missing in his life. "I promise I will love you and take care of your heart forever," he concluded.    

Oscar's girlfriend of nearly two years, Sonders, 36, was previously engaged to sports gambler Dave Oancea. The brunette beauty was once an aspiring golfer before a knee injury derailed her ambitions and plans. For the larger part of her career, Holly was one of the key reporters for Golf Channel before she bagged a deal with Fox Sports' USGA coverage in 2018.

The beloved golden boy has allegedly experienced a change of mindset since falling for the sports broadcaster. But this wasn't the case when the retired boxer was in his prime. Oscar's fans would recall the star as an ardent lover if not a womanizer.  

Oscar has seemingly had more casual flings than serious relationships as his romantic history only reveals only a handful of serious relationships. Before Oscar became a subject of broad media interest, he had already fathered two sons with two different girlfriends.   

His firstborn, Jacob, was born to his then-girlfriend, Toni Alvarado, in 1998, the same year he became a father for the second time when Angelique McQueen, an alleged girlfriend or a fling, gave birth to his second son, Devon. The former Olympic winner's first-ever notable romance was with the 1995 Miss USA winner, Shanna Moakler. 

The pair started dating in 1997 and got engaged in 1998. Their betrothal was even followed by the arrival of a daughter, Atiana, in March 1999. But before the pair could the next ultimate step in their relationship, Shanna called it quits with the boxer in 2000. The long-estranged parents have since maintained an amicable relationship.   

From 2001 to 2018, Oscar was married to actress Millie Corretjer, whom he had met on a music project in 2000. The twosome welcomed three kids, Oscar De La Hoya Jr., Lauren, and Victoria, during their 15-year-long marriage. The spouses had allegedly separated for a few years when Oscar filed for divorce in 2018.
