We still remember the time Zendaya and Tom Holland were walking on eggshells trying to keep their romance under wraps. It's almost three years later and the former co-stars are not only head over heels for each other but also unreserved about their high-profile relationship.
Zendaya and Holland, now undisputedly considered the "It couple" of Hollywood, were involved in an on-and-off romance rumor for years. It wasn't until the award-winning actors co-starred in their 2017 superhero flick, Spider-Man: Homecoming, that their unconfirmed dating rumor gained a renewed momentum.
Zendaya and Tom Holland: How it All Started?
Zendaya and her English beau shared an undeniable chemistry from the start. As the Euphoria actress and Wolf Hall star made frequent public appearances, often in each other's socials, fans were bound to get suspicious.
The likable pair met on the sets of Spider-Man: Homecoming after being cast opposite each other as Peter Parker and MJ. Although it wasn't an immediate spark from the get-go, the couple's collegial relationship soon transcended into friendship, and later into romance.
The rumors mills went on all in, pairing the American actress and Brit actor together in July 2016 after Tom posted a snap of Zendaya chilling with him, and another two friends. With the buzzing dating speculations still swirling, Zendaya and Holland gave fans more reason to believe they were romantically involved.
The subtle hints included posting each other on Instagram, of course, with casual captions, and sources claiming that the two had been taking a chance on love. "They seem to have a really similar sense of humor and love joking around together. They have great banter back and forth," a source had said while verifying the long-swirling news.
Zendaya and Tom Holland Went Official!
After years of stressing about their platonic relationship, Zendaya and Holland finally gave in to fans' curiosity in September 2021. The co-stars-turned-couple has previously sent the internet into a frenzy with paparazi-captured pictures of them sharing a smooch inside a car.
It was Tom who first bore the duty of making it official. Commemorating his Emmy-winning girlfriend's 25th birthday, the English actor posted shot of themselves up close as Spiderman and MJ with the caption, "My Mj, have the happiest of birthdays. Gimme a call when you're [sp] up xxx."
Holland, who will be turning 28 in a few months, also discussed his relationship with the Euphoria actress, while emphasizing the cons of being a public figure.
"One of the downsides of our fame is that privacy isn't really in our control anymore," Holland said in his interview in GQ. The BAFTA winner further added, "And a moment that you think is between two people that love each other very much is now a moment that is shared with the entire world."
Dishing on why they've opted to keep their personal life under wraps and how keeping things under the radar is their only chance to have a normal relationship, Zendaya said, "The equal sentiment [we both share] is just that when you really love and care about somebody, some moments or things, you wish were your own."
Zendaya and Tom Holland: Today!
Despite being one of the strongest-going couples amongst the young Hollywood A-listers, Zendaya and Holland can't possibly be at each other's arm's reach at all times. The fact that the pair are in the prime of their still-skyrocketing careers, certainly poses a number of challenges in their love life.
The loved-up couple is, however, navigating the highs and lows of their work and relationship with visible finesse. Since their Marvel movie in 2017, Zendaya and Holland haven't shared a screen, but both Zendaya and Holland have proved that they are each other's biggest supporters.
"I think it's great to have that support and love around you because you need that," Zendaya has said while crediting her beau for being her rock when she was playing the dark character of Rue. "This isn't an easy job, so it's good to have that to free you up from it every now and then," the Emmy winner added.
The A-list couple had yet again fans doting on them as the Dune actress gave a rare statement on their relationship. During her recent press meet for Dune: Part Two, starring herself, Timothée Chalamet, and Austin Butler, Zendaya gushed her beau had the most "rizz."
"Rizz is short for charisma, right? Everybody's kind of got their own," Zendaya said, appearing relatively unfamiliar with the internet slang. She adds, "I think someone who has beautiful charisma, not on the Dune cast, but I know personally works for me, is Mr. Tom Holland."
