Andrew Rannells was born on 23 August 1978 in Omaha, Nebraska, the United States as Andrew Scott Rannells. His parents are Ronald Rannells and Charlotte Rannells.

Rannells has four siblings, two older sisters, one elder brother and one little sister. After studying at Our Lady of Lourdes in Ohama, he went to study at Creighton Preparatory School. As a child, he studied at Emmy Gifford Children’s Theater. Later he enrolled at Marymount Manhattan College in New York City in theatre.
