Bruce was born to Phyllis M Hasselberg & Donald R Hasselberg in Minnesota, USA. According to the 1940 census of Ancestry, he was born in approximately 1939 when his father was twenty-three and his mother twenty-one. 

He also has a younger sister, Barbara Hasselberg Chevalier, born in 1943. His father, Donald Hasselberg, served as a Mayor of Bloomington in Minnesota for two terms from 1964 to 1967. Sadly, he passed away on April 16, 1996, and is currently buried under the Lakewood Cemetery located in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Similarly, Bruce's mother, Phyllis M Hasselberg, was also quite beloved by the people. She had the title 'First Lady of Bloomington,' which was never relinquished. She was also gifted with musical ability, which allowed her to be hired to open up the Southdale Dayton Music department.

"I caught her cheating on me, And so I just … I made the decision to call it off."
