Amanpour was born as Christiane Maria Heideh Amanpour in a British Iranian family. She was born on January 12, 1958, in London and raised in Tehran. 

Her mother is Patricia Anne while her father is Mohammad Taghi Amanpour.

Concerning education, Christiane completed her elementary education in Iran. She attended Holy Cross Convent and New Hall School.

Concerning her career, she worked for the WBRU-FH, Providence, Rhode Island in its news department. Christiane also worked for the NBC affiliated channel WJAR as an electronic graphic designer.

Amanpour started her career with CNN in 1983, she also reported the Persian Gulf war and the Bosnian crisis. 

From 1992 to 2010, she was employed as the international correspondent for CNN. In 2010 she left CNN and joined ABC News, where she worked as an anchor. She served there till 2012.

Afterward, Christine again joined CNN. Since 2012, she is hosting CNN International's nightly interview program, Amanpour. She also hosts PBS's show Amanpour & Company.
