Who is Emily Buchanan?

Emily Buchanan was born on 7 October 1958 as Emily Margesson Buchanan in Hammersmith, West London. She is the daughter of George Buchanan (1904–1989) and Hon. Janet Margesson (1918–1968). Her father was a novelist and poet from Northern Ireland. Buchanan holds British citizenship and is of white ethnicity.

Buchanan studied at the St. Paul's Girls' School, an independent school in Hammersmith and also joined the University of Sussex in History, French and Spanish. After graduation, she studied for an MA in 1982 from the City University London in Radio Journalism.

Emily started her career at the BBC in Bush House and then worked at BBC World Service where her first interview was with Desmond Tutu. A few years later, she joined BBC Television and worked for BBC 2's Assignment program. Further, she was appointed Developing World Correspondent of the BBC in 1994. Subsequently,  from around 1998 to 2001, she became the Religious Affairs Correspondent for three years.

Currently, Emily Buchanan is serving for the BBC's World Affairs Correspondent and has presented the BBC Radio 4 program Sunday. Additionally, she has also worked with Carol Kirkwood and Sarah Smith.

She deals with what she sees as an attachment to the problem of "fallacies."
