The entertainment personality was born as Emily Mallory Procter in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA, on October 8, 1968. Emily is the adopted daughter of a general practitioner, William Procter (father), and a volunteer worker, Barbara Jones (mother). Emily has an elder brother named Whit. He was also adopted.

Concerning educational background, Emily attended Ravenscroft School located in Raleigh. Later, she earned a degree in journalism from East Carolina University.
