Seigenthaler was also founding editorial director of USA Today from 1982 to 1991. John is the sole writer of three books published to date. John released his first book in 1971 under the name, A Search for Justice. Then in 1974, another book, The Year of the Scandal Called Watergate.
For his contribution to American Journalism, John won several national and international awards. In 1996, Seigenthaler received the Elijah Parish Lovejoy Award as well as an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Colby College.
