Josh Hartnett was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota, the USA on July 21, 1978. He is the son of Daniel Hartnett and Wendy Anne. Although he was born to Wendy Anne, he grew up with his dad and stepmother. Hartnett has three siblings named Jake Hartnett and Joe Hartnett and Jessica Hartnett. 

Josh holds an American nationality and belongs to mixed ethnicity (Swedish, Irish, German, Norwegian). Moving towards his education, he went to Our Lord Catholic School of Nativity. Later, Josh graduated from the Conservatory of Theater Arts & Film at SUNY Purchase. 

In the 1998 short film Debutante, Josh started his acting career as Bill. He also appeared in two more movies in the same year, Halloween H20: 20 Years Later and The Faculty. Soon after that, in films like Here on Earth, The Same, Member, Blow Dry, and Town & Country, he gained numerous roles. He has also collaborated with actors like Ben Affleck, Tom Hardy, Scarlett Johansson and many more.
