Karen Borta is a multiple award-winning veteran journalist and television broadcaster. She has been working for CBS 11 News for the past 25 years. Previously, she worked as an anchor and reporter at CBS affiliate WTVT-TV, KRBK-TV, and KCEN-TV. She has spent 20 years as a nighttime anchor.

As a longtime journalist, Borta has received several prestigious awards. In 2019, the Press Club of Dallas named her a 'Legend' of North Texas Journalism, the industry's prestigious lifetime excellence award.

The 55-year-old Karen Borta has been married to her longtime husband, Jim Borta, since 1994. The couple first met while pursuing their undergraduate studies. They have been together for over 25 years as of 2020.

Karen's husband is a graduate of San Diego State University. Further, he moved to Australia and earned a Master's degree from the University of Melbourne. Jim worked as a sales agent for Medical supplies. He is a loving and caring husband who looks after his family despite a busy schedule.

For their 10th wedding anniversary, Jim surprised his wife with a vow-renewal ceremony. Their kids and close family members attended the ceremony. Karen once revealed that it was one of the most treasured moments of her life.

Mother of Three Kids

Karen and Jim share three children. Besides spending time with her family, she loves reading and playing tennis. Their first child, son Jake Borta was born in 1997. The second child, a daughter, Katie Borta, was born in 2000. Likewise, the youngest daughter, Kylie Borta, was born in 2002.

Jake and Katie pursued their college degree at Texas A&M University. Meanwhile, Kylie was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2015. Despite her health condition, she was a high school volleyball player averaging at 4.0. Kylie graduated Summa Cum Laude in July 2020.

In 2005, Borta received the inaugural Commitment to the Cure award. In her free time, she volunteers with the Dallas and Greater Fort Worth-Arlington chapters of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Family Background

Karen was born on March 17, 1965, in North Texas, the United States. She is a Mirabeau B. Lamar High School graduate. For further education, she enrolled at the University of Texas at Arlington.

Speaking about her family background, Karen's father was a pilot for American Airlines, and her mother worked for the Drug Enforcement Agency in Laredo. She shares Latino ancestry from her father’s side and an English ethnicity from her mother’s side.
