Lamar was born and raised in Jamaica by his parents. Joe Odom is his father and Cathy Mercer is his mother. Sadly his father was addicted to drugs and died due to that addiction. His mother was suffering from Colon cancer at the same time and died from that disease when Lamar was 12.
After the tragic death of his parents, he was taken care of by his maternal grandmother, Mildred Mercer. Later he moved to New York, the United States to pursue his career in Basketball.

Lamar Odom was not good at studies from an early age. Because of his low grades, he used to get transferred from school to school. He did his early education at Christ The King Regional High School which is located in Middle Village, Queens, and Redemption Christian Academy which is situated in Troy.
He played Basketball for three years in Christ The King Regional High School. He also attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School, in New Britain.
Personal Life
Lamar stayed in a married relationship for a long time with Liza Morales. The couple was blessed with three kids but the youngest child passed away due to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. However, the lovely couple got separated and they are now living their personal life.

Lamar was always fond of playing Basketball from childhood and now he is a successful player who is playing in NBA. In the beginning, he played for ‘Los Angeles Clippers’ and after that, he played for Miami Heat. He was then traded to Los Angeles Lakers for Shaquille O'Neal at the end of the season.
After moving to Los Angeles Lakers he was benched for most of the season but he did off-training because he was out of shape. He was also offered to make the contract by his previous club, Miami Heat but he refused that offer. He was given the new role as Lakers’ sixth man and he embraced that role. In the season of 2008-2010, he gave his best and it was one of the best of his career. After that season he played for Laker's one more season and then went in Dallas Mavericks.

He got that title twice and he was also named All-American twice by the 'Parade', in 1996 and 1997.
Lamar got the title of 'Atlantic 10 Rookie of the year' in 1999 and he was one of the members of the 'NBA All-Rookie First Team' in 2000.
Because of the outstanding performance in the Lakers’ sixth man role he got the title of 'NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award' for the 2010-11 season.
