Lara Spencer is one of the popular names in the field of journalism best known as the host of ABC's Good Morning America. Till date, she worked with several renowned news channels.

Lara was born to Richard VonSaleen and Caroleen Von Saleen. She grew up in the New York suburb of Garden City. 

Current Relationship Status

Lara Spencer is currently married to her partner, Rick McVey in 2018 at an intimate ceremony. The couple dated for more than three years before committing as husband and wife in Vail, Colorado among 135 friends.

Lara Spencer was previously married to former CNN journalist David Haffenreffer in 2000 at St Andrew's Dune Church in an episcopal ceremony. They also share two children; a son David Huffard Haffenreffer(b.2002) and a daughter, Katherine Paige Haffenreffer (b.2004).

The couple, however, couldn't handle their marriage and divorced after 15 years in 2000 citing some irreconcilable differences. Before divorce, Lara lived in the Riverside section of Greenwich, Connecticut before moving to Los Angeles in 2008. Likewise, Alexandra Cohen's husband Steven Cohen bought a 14 acres house worth $14 Million in Greenwich, Connecticut.

Formative Years

Lara graduated from Garden City High School in 1987. Later, she was selected on an athletic scholarship to attain her college at Pennsylvania State University. Lara has been a nationally competitive diver. Eventually, it earned her an All-American Athlete title in 1991.

Lara's father worked in New York as the president of the North American division of Pringle of Scotland, one of the oldest fashion brands specializing in cashmere knitwear. It holds a royal warrant as a manufacturer of knitted garments.


After college, Lara Spencer started to volunteer to gain experience. Spencer went to the NBC Page Program to work with other reporters.

After a good stint in journalism, Lara joined ABC's Good MorningAmerica as a national correspondent in 1999. Spencer was made the executive of the game show Its Worth What in 2011 

In 2012, she published her first book titled, I Brake For Yard Sale. After a year, she hosted the 87th Miss America Pageant in New Jersey along with Chris Harrison

In 2014, Lara's second book, Flea Market Fabulous: Designing Gorgeous Rooms With Vintage Treasure was released.


In 1991, Lara Spencer was named as All American Athlete. She was also named Grand Marshal at Penn State Homecoming in 2014.
