Mark was born on March 17, 1955, in Cincinnati, Ohio, in the United States of America to father Bob Heidrich and mother Ginny Heidrich. He spent his childhood in Chicago's North Shore. while attending the University of Vermont. His surname Boone was taken from a New York City war memorial.

Mark is a married man as of 2020. He tied the knot to his long time girlfriend, Christina Adshade. The pair started dating for some time before taking the big step.
