Martha Raddatz was born as Martha Jean Raddatz on February 14, 1953, in Idaho Falls. However, her family moved to Salt Lake City. Information about her parent's is not shared with the media. Soon after the separation, Martha tied her knot with Julius Genachowski in 1991. Like that of her first marriage, this also ended in 1997. From this first two marriage, Martha has two children, a daughter, Greta Bradlee, and a son, Jake Genachowski.

In October 2012, Raddatz moderated the only Vice Presidential debate between Congressman Paul Ryan and Vice President Joe Biden, which covered domestic and foreign topics. She received the Walter Cronkite Award for excellence in political journalism with a special commendation for debate moderation.
