Maryen Lorrain Miller is the mother of an American TV personality, Abby Lee Miller. Abby is the founder and director of Abby Lee Dance Company. She gained prominence after appearing in the reality show Dance Moms.

Abby, who is herself a cancer survivor, gave an emotional speech at Maryen's funeral. Miller was buried at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetery in Miami, Florida.

Maryen spent the majority of her early days in her birthplace Pittsburgh, PA. Growing up, she enrolled at St. Rosalia's Catholic School. It is where she was introduced to dancing which will later make her renowned.

Miller started dancing at the age of 6, under Martha Davis at St. Rosalia Catholic School. Following her graduation, Maryen's family moved to Miami, Florida at the age of 18.

Miller briefly danced for the United Service Organization (USO) until his father, Terrance Mckay, forbade it. However, Miller became a dance teacher instead she became a dance teacher.

Miller began teaching dance to children in 1944 and opened her first dance studio in 1945. She operated it till 1963 and retired from the dance studio at the age of 63.

Abby Miller's mother, Maryen Lorrain Miller, founded the Maryen Lorrain School of Dance six months after her retirement. The School was later renamed 'Reign Dance Productions'.

Many of Miller's students became successful dancers. Among her students, some noteworthy names are Albert Stevenson, Viola, Terry Eno, and Sylvia Hitchcock.

When Did Maryen Lorrain Miller Married?

Maryen Lorraine Miller married George L. "Solley" Miller. George was her childhood friend. The two tied the knot in the 1960s and following that, Miller retired from her dance studio. Maryen and George had their second wedding reception in Miami Florida.

Together Maryen and her husband, George, have one child; a daughter named Abby Miller. Like Miller, her spouse was also diagnosed with Cancer. He died of esophageal cancer on Father's Day in 2000.

Maryen welcomed her daughter on September 21, 1965, i.e eighteen months after founding the Maryen Lorrain School of Dance. Miller raised her daughter well and encouraged her to take part in various activities.

Girl Scouts, clarinet lessons, ice skating, roller skating, sewing, ski club, and swim team, Maryen involved her daughter in everything. She wanted to make Abby fit and physically active. 

Meanwhile, Maryen's husband, George, would feed Abby a basket full of bread which would make her mad. Abby remembers how her mother used to comment about her eating like a man.

Like her mother, Abby Lee Miller was also diagnosed with cancer in 2018. She battled Burkitt Lymphoma, a rare and aggressive form of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma for a year.

After going through rounds of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and spinal surgery, Abby was declared cancer-free. However, she still has side effects from the surgery. 

Abby has been using a wheelchair since 2019. The doctors have advised her not to put weight on her legs. Miller who is in a wheelchair also said that she wants to walk freely.

Maryen Lorrain Miller was estimated to have a net worth of at least $1 Million. She accumulated this amount from a successful career as a dancer, dance instructor, and dance studio owner. Miller owned a dance studio and opened a dance school under her name.

Reign Dance Productions was founded by Maryen. She operated several dance studios in the Miami Beach area and taught thousands of students. Similarly, Abby Lee Miller's mother was a member of the Dance Masters of America.

Maryen's daughter, Abby, also has a similar net worth. According to Celebrity Net Worth, she commands a net worth of $1 Million. She listed her Davenport house for $400k in January 2003. Abby originally purchased the house in 2005 for $243k.

Although Maryen Lorrain Miller's daughter, Abby boasts a notable net worth now, she was once bankrupt. She had filed for bankruptcy in 2010 and owed more than $400,000 in back taxes to the IRS.

In 2015, Abby was indicted a bankruptcy fraud after it was revealed that she was hiding her income in separate accounts. As per reports, Miller concealed more than $755,000.

For this, Maryen's daughter was sentenced to one year and one day in jail. In addition to that,  Abby had to pay a $40,000 fine and a $120,000 judgment.
