In his final year of football, he had 81 tackles and 19.5 quarterback sacks. Garrett received Parade All-American, Texas Class 5A Defensive Player of the Year, and MaxPreps All-American accolades in high school. In October 2013, he committed to play for the Texas A&M Aggies.
