Bernstine was born to her father, Daniel O Bernstine who was a lawyer and a former college president of the International Law School Admissions Council, and her mother, Nancy Tyler Bernstine who is also a Lawyer. 

She was raised alongside her brother, Dr.Justin Tyler Brnstine in Washington, DC. 

Being the daughter of a lawyer, Bernstine initially dreamt of being a lawyer in the future in order to live up to her mother's legacy. She majored in Public Policy at Brown University but she got into the Entertainment Industry in her early college years which she continue making it her professional career.

In 2017 after acting in minor roles in multiple television series, she acted for a noticeable role when she cast the role of a defense attorney Tameika Robinson/ Tameika Washington, in the television series Power. 

She appeared in 17 episodes of the series between 2017 and 2020 and she performed the role in its spin-off, power Book II: Ghost that premiered on 6 September 2020 on Starz.
