The professional cyclist was born on September 13, 1994, in Durango, Colorado, the US, to Sabina Kuss and Dolph Kuss. His parents are experienced skiers and trainers. Additionally, his father even coached the Olympic skiing team, and his mom served as a Nordic Center instructor in Durango. 

Regarding his education, earlier, he joined the University of Colorado Boulder in Boulder, Colorado. He hasn't shared much about his educational background, although he appears to be well-educated and talented.

When he was with his family, Colorado native Kuss enjoyed cross-country skiing, mountain biking, kayaking, and ice hockey as a kid. He started road cycling while attending the University of Colorado.
