He initially received $1.55 Million from the debut album of his musical group, System of a Down in June 1998. In the same year, he garnered $2.35 Million of record sales through his compilation album, Chef Aid: The South Park in November 1998.

Tankian, further, grasped $6.63 Million from the album, Toxicity after selling 5.1 million copies in September 2001. Back in 2002, he earned $650,000 from The Scorpian King soundtrack album in March and $1.42 Million from the album, Steal This Album! in November.

System of a Down's Lead Vocalist, Tankian's Early Years

The 5 feet 8 inches tall, Serj was born on 21st August 1967 in Beirut, Lebanon. At the age of 7, he immigrated to the United States of America with his beloved parents, where they settled down in Los Angeles, California. Besides, his paternal and maternal grandparents managed to survive the Armenian Genocide. His ethnic background is mixed with Dortyol, Kayseri Tokat, Urfa, Turkey, and holds citizenship of America.

On the other hand, Tankian enrolled at a K-12 Armenian school, Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian School based in Los Angeles. At that time, he met Daron Malakian and Shavo Odadjian, who are his band members of the System of a Down. He later went to study at the California State University, Northbridge in 1986. 

Serj then earned a Bachelor in Marketing degree from the university in 1989. He also succeeded to give an introduction to the Armenian Students Association about the Armenian Genocide while he was serving as the president of the respective university.
