The shocking news has surfaced amid Sofia's 51st birthday and as the Modern Family actress celebrates the milestone in Italy.  

The estranged couple released a joint statement, which read, "We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect for our privacy at this time." The news has sent the media and fans into a frenzy as it comes right after another high-profile couple, Ariana Grande, and Dalton Gomez's separation announcement.  

It is no surprise that several sources have come forward to share an insight into Sofia's split from Joe. An insider shared that the couple have no bad blood and they just sort of grew apart. The source explained how the couple tried to work out their differences but was unsuccessful.    

Insider claims that the pair had been growing apart for a while! 

"They had differences in how their lives should go forward and it caused stress," said another insider. The Columbian actress met Manganiello, who is five years her junior, through her Modern Family co-star, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, in May 2014. Manganiello had just gotten out of a relationship and so did Vergara.   

The attractive pair started dating shortly after and their romance turned whirlwind, with the new love birds moving in together within months of dating, and Manganiello getting down on his knees after six months. "When you know, you know, and we knew right away—like, very quickly," Joe said while gushing about his hot girlfriend-turned-fiancé.   

The Emmy-winning actress and Manganiello enjoyed a year of engagement bliss and got hitched in an extravagant ceremony. The couple's dreamy wedding took place at The Breakers in Palm Beach, on November 21, 2015, with over 350 guests, including Sofia's Modern Family co-stars, in attendance.  

Vergara and her hunky husband rarely flaunted their strong bond and largely kept it low-key, except on some occasions. The couple's last appearance together was when Sofia visited Joe on his film's set in Hoboken, N.J. The Hot Pursuit actress is a mother to one, who she shares with her first ex-husband.   

Sofia's now-estranged husband, Manganiello, 46, is a famed actor. Joe's best-known credits include Spider-Man, True Blood, Magic Mike, What to Expect When You're Expecting, and How I Met Your Mother.

Vergara was only 18 when she married her childhood boyfriend, Joe Gonzalez, in her hometown. The Four Brothers actress had just been discovered and was gearing up to launch herself into the world. But woe knocked on Sofia's door before success. During her brief marriage with Gonzalez, Vergara welcomed a son, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara.

And a year after her son's birth, Vergara was left raising him all on her own. "I was really young when I divorced his father, so I give him the best that I could," the actress recalled. Vergara was briefly linked with Hollywood powerhouse, Tom Cruise before she started her infamous romance with businessman Nick Loeb.   

Vergara and Loeb crossed paths in 2010 and had a roller-coaster romance until 2014. During their tumultuous relationship, the Modern Family actress got engaged to Nick and even created two embryos, in case, they wanted to start a family in the future.   

The embryos turned out to be a big mistake as Leob, who is pro-life, sued the actress to stop her from destroying the frozen embryos. The long-estranged couple's nasty battle took a turn earlier this year as Nick sued the Beverly Hills fertility clinic for not doing their job thoroughly. Leob claims he was not informed that he'd be blocked from the embryos if they broke up.
