Stephen Sackur was born on January 9, 1964, in Spilsby, Lincolnshire, England as Stephen John Sackur. Stephen studied at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at King Edward VI Grammar School, Spilsby, Emmanuel College, Cambridge (BA, 1985). Later, Stephen graduated from Harvard University.

Sackur started working as a trainee at the BBC in 1986 and was named one of his foreign affairs correspondents in 1990. As a correspondent for BBC Radio, Sackur reported on Czechoslovakia's Velvet Revolution in 1989 and Germany's reunification in 1990. 

He was also BBC's global television moderator of a climate change debate with a panel of five world leaders from South Africa, the Maldives, Sweden, Australia, and Mexico. He also wrote On the Basra Road: Gulf War scenes (London Books Review) in 1991. Still, Stephen is actively working as a Journalist for BBC News. 

Not to forget, the Geneva School of Diplomacy and International Relations honored Sackur with an Honorary Doctorate of International Relations (DIR) in June 2017. Also, the University of Warwick granted him an Honorary Doctorate of Letters in July 2018.
