Tamiko Pleshette Nash was born on August 24, 1979, in Los Angeles, California. She had been an intelligent and ambitious student who finished high school at Notre Dame Academy in 1997. 

Her education continued at San Diego State University with a BS in Child and Family Development in 2002. This early groundwork in education and personal development laid the bedrock of her subsequent success.

Pageantry and Achievements

Tamiko's journey in pageantry began with her winning the Miss California USA pageant in 2005. This achievement made her only the third African American to hold the title. Her success continued as she represented California in the Miss USA 2006 pageant, where she placed first runner-up. 

This remarkable performance showcased her poise, beauty, and talent. If the winner, Tara Conner, had been dethroned, Tamiko would have inherited the rest of her reign as Miss USA. However, Trump forgave Conner, and she retained the crown.

Controversies and Challenges

Tamiko's career has not been controversy-free. When TMZ.com broke the story in 2006 that Tara Conner, Miss USA 2006, would be dethroned for unacceptable behavior, Tamiko was set to inherit the rest of her reign as Miss USA.

However, Trump pardoned Conner, and the latter went on to retain her crown. The incident made it clear that there is always pressure and scrutiny waiting on the shoulders of beauty queens.

Tamiko has also had the opportunity to work for the Recording Academy, which hosts the Grammy Awards. She was also an elementary school teacher at Birdrock Elementary in La Jolla, CA.
