The Forrest Gump actor and his wife, Wilson, stayed in an Australian hospital after being tested positive for COVID-19. Hanks wrote on his Instagram:
"Hello folks. @ritawilson and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive."
After remaining in a stable condition, the couple was released on March 16, 2020, from the hospital. Their son, Chet Hanks, shared a video message about his parents' condition, which had improved a lot.
