The host has a younger brother, Wynn Pennington. When Ty and his brother were little, his mother divorced their father. Ty's ancestors are Cherokee in part. Before enrolling at Kennesaw State University, he attended Sprayberry High School in Marietta, Georgia, majoring in art and history.
