Later, he joined the Cleveland Cavaliers and played 66 games for three seasons. Fraizer was one of the NBA's 50 greatest players in 1996 and was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1987.

On March 29, 1945, Walt Fraizer was born Walter "Clyde" Frazier Jr., to Walt Fraize Sr. and Eula Fraizer. He was raised with his eight younger siblings in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. 

As Walt Fraizer spent all his childhood in Atlanta, he completed his early schooling from there. He was well recognized by his nickname 'Clyde' for his school's football team.

Walt attended high school in Atlanta's David Tobia Howard High school and learned to play basketball. Fraizer went to the Southern Illinois University for his higher studies and became a part of the collegiate basketball team. 

Due to his poor academics grade, he was ineligible to play basketball, so he started seeking help alongside his practice with the Salukis.
