Brooke was one of 12 American journalists who participated in the RIAS German-American Exchange Program, an all-expenses-paid fellowship.

Brooke flew to Germany and Belgium in two weeks to meet with other journalists from across the world. During her stay in Berlin, she worked with German Chancellor Angela Merkel's critical team and attended seminars at the US Embassy, the European Commission, and NATO.
