Matthew Jay Povich gained fame after becoming the adopted child of TV personalities Maury Povich and Connie Chung. His father, Maury is a TV personality best known for hosting the Maury tabloid talk show. Whereas his mother is an American news anchor and journalist who was the first woman to co-anchor CBS Evening News.

Matthew Jay Povich, now 29 years old, is still an unmarried man. He has not declared any sort of romantic relationship with any woman so far.

On June 19, 1995, the TV personality Maury Povich and his journalist wife Connie Chung announced the good news saying: "We are happy to confirm, that after a long period of waiting we have adopted a boy, Matthew Jay Povich.''
Maury, 82, and Chung, 74, were married on December 2, 1984, at a private ceremony. The two first met each other while at WTTG-TV in Washington working in the news department. They really tried for a number of years to get biological kids, but it never succeeded.
Their problems giving birth to a child became public in 1990 when Chung revealed on the news magazine show Face to Face with Connie Chung that she was cutting back on her schedule. Where she could spend more time at home and concentrate on becoming pregnant. She had suffered a miscarriage a short time ago.
In June 1993, when Connie was 47, the couple's efforts at in vitro fertilization failed. She once said it wasn't easy for them on People. Povich and Jay were also ready to share two of Maury's daughters from his ex-wife. Although, they were disappointed.
After many disappointments, this led them to their decision to adopt a child that would fulfill their family. In 1995, they eventually adopted Matthew and became parents. He measures 6 pounds, and 12 ounces at the time of adoption. In the conventional Jewish community Matthew was circumcised in June 1995.
Matthew's Dad Was Previously Married to Phyllis Minkoff
The former host of Maury Povich Show's first marriage was with his first wife, Phyllis Minkoff. They tied the knot in the year 1962 at a private function. However, there is no information about their wedding details on the media.
But later, their marital life went sour, and announced their divorce in 1979, after 17 years of union. This couple of exes, Maury and Phyllis share two daughters, Susan Anne and Amy Joyce Povich, together. Additionally, actress daughter Amy got hitched to doctor and author David Agus.
