Hawke has been married twice and unlike people falling into a repeated pattern, be it in their romantic life, both marriages have been a very different experience for the actor. The first time Hawke walked down the aisle was in 1998. He was a rising star at the onset of a very promising career and his first wife, Uma Thurman, was just as famous.   

The pair met on the sets of their 1997 flick, Gattaca, and shortly fell in love. Ethan and Thurman, who was previously married to actor Gary Oldman, tied the knot on May 1, 1998, and went on to welcome two kids. Seven years down the line, Hawke, and Thurman's marriage was already in the shambles.  

The Before Sunrise actor even went to length to say that he had "no business marrying Thurman in the first place." Reflecting back on his first marriage, Ethan said, "Success when you're young is really overwhelming. I thought marriage would decrease my variables or something. I was absolutely wrong."     

Ethan and Thurman's oldest daughter, Maya Hawke, is best known for starring in 'Stranger Things.' 

The A-list couple parted ways in 2003 amid rumors of Hawke's infidelity and their divorce was finalized in 2005. Refuting the infidelity allegations, the Oscar nominee blamed their busy schedules, and moreover, their young career, for the demise of their marriage.  

While Thurman went on to date financier Arpad Busson, Ethan started a rather controversial relationship with Ryan Shawhughes, who previously worked as a nanny to his and Uma's kids. The Dead Poets Society actor and Shawhughes got married in June 2008.   

Explaining how his relationship with Shawhughes began at the heels of his divorce from Uma, Hawke said, "I was very cautious during that period of my life and desperately wanted to stay single." The actor added, "But sometimes life happens to you. The bottom line is we're incredibly compatible." 

Alongside his two kids from his marriage to Thurman, the Dead Poets Society actor has fathered two daughters with his second wife. With the help of Hawke's solid footing in showbiz, Shawhughnes has also ventured into the movie world, and created an A-list, albeit, private family.

Hawke's first wife's name didn't cause any confusion among fans. Commercially successful and critically acclaimed in their own rights, Ethan, and Thurman made the perfect Hollywood couple at one time. Hawke's second and now-wife, Shawhughes, might be nowhere close to Thurman's status of celebrity, but she has cemented a prolific career over the years.   

Shawhughes is thriving in the business as a producer. Her credits include First Reformed, Blaze, The Good Lord Bird, and more. Mrs. Hawke has also dabbled in acting in the past and heads Ethan's production company, Under the Influence Production, as the vice President.  

Hawke's blended family, consisting of his ex-wife, their two kids, and his current family with Shawhughes, couldn't be more amicable. The Tony-winning actor was a rising star when he welcomed his oldest, Maya Hawke, in 1998. Maya is certainly the best-known of Ethan's brood, with credits in Stranger Things, Little Women, and more.   

The Reality Bites actor embraced fatherhood for the second time in 2002, with the birth of his second child, Levon Roan Thurman-Hawke. Blessed with his parents' good genes, Levon has ventured into the fashion, as well as the acting world. The young heartthrob can often be spotted making dashing appearances in high-end fashion shows and with his famous father at other events.  

Ethan shares his two youngest, Clementine, and Indiana, with Ryan. The actor has been open about the struggle of maintaining a career and a family life. On one occasion, Hawke even credited his oldest daughter for helping him with his then-infant daughters.   

Ethan's daughters, only 13, and 11, as of this writing, are already taking interest in their dad's work. The Dead Poet Society star said that his 2022 movie, Moon Knight, made a lasting impact on his daughter Clementine. His youngest, Indiana, on the other hand, is seemingly inclined towards music.
