In late 2007, Acosta joined CNN and began covering presidential campaigns of Democratic candidates like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. He also appeared as a host on the show Ballot Bowl. In 2012, Jim was promoted and became National Political Correspondent for CNN. 

Additionally, Acosta is popular for covering ex-president Barack Obama's historic trip to the island in Cuba. Since 9th January 2018, Jim is serving as a Chief White House Correspondent for CNN.
