Inside Kody Brown's atypical marriage with four women: The reality television star is a father to eighteen children!
There is not much to know about Kody Brown's life than his personal life, which is a memoir-worthy topic on its own. Brown was a regular American, working as an advertising salesman before rising to become a household face with TLC's Sister Wives. Brown is one of the myriads to garner celebrity status after TLC broadcasted their atypical life for mass entertainment or public awareness.
Born on January 17, 1969, in Lowell, Wyoming, to his polygamist parents, William Winn Brown and Genielle Tew. Brown continued to father's legacy by delving into polygamy, a practice not legally recognized in the US. Brown's unconventional lifestyle has been a fixation on TLC since 2010 and it continues to draw massive attention from viewers.
Who are Kody Brown's Wives?
Kody's atypical conjugal life has surely been an intriguing and amusing affair for TLC's viewers but the salesman-turned-reality star has had a tough time navigating it in front of the camera. Viewers have witnessed Kody go through a series of ups and downs with each of his wives and tend to an enormous brood.
Since catapulting to fame with the reality series, Kody has gone from being a husband to four wives, and gradually moving his way up to include one less, followed by the exit of the other two in the equation, to being a husband to one. Brown's television-famous polygamous marriage imploded one by one, with his three wives leaving him within 14 months.
Kody's first wife, Meri Brown, whom he met through her sister, was in Kody's life for the longest time up until this year. The pair had a whirlwind romance before they got hitched within a year. The pair share one kid, Leon, who came out as transgender in June 2022.
Brown and Meri were the lovey-dovey couple when they were first introduced to the show but when Kody divorced Meri in 2014 so that he could marry a new bride, something snapped between the duo. The pair hit many controversies over the years, including Meri's catfishing scandal, and eventually, Kody's bitter confession about their estranged relationship.
Kody's second wife, Janelle, was spiritually married to Kody until last year. The pair share six kids, Logan, Hunter, Garrison, Gabriel, Maddie, and Savannah. Janelle was the second one to leave Brown after his third wife. Brown's third in the line, Christine, whom he spiritually married in 1994, ended things after 25 years together.
Kody divorced his first and only legal wife, Meri, so that he could marry his fourth bride!
They share six kids, Paedon and Aspyn, Mykelti, Gwendlyn, Ysabel, and Truely. Brown and Christine were the first to undergo straining tension amid the pandemic, with Christine finding Kody's Morman household rules ridiculous.
When Christine left the plural marriage in November 2021, a storyline that was thoroughly covered in seasons 16 and 17 of the show, she blamed Kody's changed behavior for their split. The complaints included Brown's withering interest in her after the arrival of a new bride and zero efforts from his side to work on their relationship.
Brown's other estranged wife had more or less the same complaints. After Christine, Brown announced his and Janelle's separation, in December 2022, followed by Meri, who left the reality star earlier this year. Meri revealed that her relationship with Brown died a long time ago and that they had been platonic for years.
Kody Brown's Marriage with His Fourth and Only Wife, Robyn Brown!
Since the gradual departure of his wives, Brown has been left with only one wife, Robyn Brown, who allegedly took the top spot in Brown's wives hierarchy in a short time. Robyn was a divorced mother of three when she met Kody in 2009. The pair went on to tie the knot legally (after Kody divorced Meri) in 2014 after welcoming a kid together in 2011.
As per sources and Kody's former wives' allegations, Kody was busy romancing Robyn when his relationship with his first three wives was falling apart, (talk about an inefficient polygamy patriarch). Sources also revealed that with Kody getting closer to Robyn's kids, whom he adopted, his relationship with his biological kids also strained over time.
Despite his strong faith in polygamy, Brown is now living a monogamous marriage. The Sister Wives couple recently revealed that their relationship isn't the same since the exits of Kody's three wives. "We are still in a deep state of mourning," said Kody.
Robyn also concurred by stating how she has been depressed because of their failed polygamous practice. Robyn went as far as to share that Kody's unsuccessful relationship with his first three wives has been a "deal-breaker" for her. "This is not what our marriage agreement is," Robyn explained.
