Lyle Jeffs is an American polygamist cult ex-leader. He served as the acting president of the  Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS church). The church has been in his family since the time of his predecessors.

Jeffs is the brother of the notorious figure, Warren Jeffs, who was on the list of the ten most wanted by the FBI. Lyle's life took a tumultuous turn after his arrest in 2017 for food stamp fraud and money laundering.

Lyle Jeffs is reported to have married nine times. His legal wife, Charlene Jeffs, filed for divorce in 2015, and the former pair separated. Charlene and Lyle tied the knot in August 1983 and was his first wife.

As his eight other alleged marriages are not legal, from a legal perspective, Jeffs's marital status is not married. However, according to Lyle's first wife, he considers them as the spiritual wives.

Jeff reportedly has over 60 children from his different relationships. Besides Charlene, Jeffs's other wives' identity has not been revealed to the public.

Jeffs Relationship With First Wife, Charlene Jeffs

Lyle and Charlene's relationship was a messy one. According to his first wife, the bishop of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Jeffs had banished her from his Hildale's compound for two years. She added,

'Of Lyle's multiple wives, I was never the favorite because I have a mind of my own.

Lyle was accused of treating Charlene harshly. She was only allowed to cook and clean.

Lyle Jeffs reportedly shared 10 children with Charlene. Besides this, he is accused of having 50 other children from his other wives. Following the divorce from his legal spouse, Charlene, Jeff was involved in the custody battle of his children.

Charlene had asked for the custody of two of their teenage children, a then-17-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl. The two share a joint custody now. Lyle's former partner, Charlene, suspected that he had sexually abused their children. 

According to the reports obtained from Jeffs's wife, he had not allowed Charlene to meet their children. There was also a practice in FLDS where children were divided into other spiritual wives by taking from their biological mother.

Where Is Lyle Jeffs Now?

Lyle Jeffs was sentenced to prison for 5 years in 2017. He was arrested by the FBI for money laundering and food stamp fraud. Yes, despite being accused of rape and other crimes, the food stamp fraud brought criminal charges to him and several church leaders.

After his arrest, Jeffs was held in the Minnehaha County Jail in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, for the U.S. Marshal Service. In addition to five years of prison, Lyle was ordered three years of probation and $1 million in restitution.

Jeffs was monitored by the Phoenix Residential Reentry Management field office. Later, he was released on March 15, 2021. Following his release, he went back to Utah in his residence. However, his position in the FLDS is unknown.

Besides this, he was charged with money laundering and food stamp fraud. He allegedly earned thousands of dollars from these illegal sources. Speaking of his real estate, Lyle has a house in Utah. However, nothing much is known about it.

As a bishop of FLDS, Lyle's account was filled with money. Jeff's first wife stated that in the church group, the Jeff family was the equivalent of the British Royal Family and had their own "secret service".

Lyle's Divorce Settlements

Jeffs consented to pay $1,000 in child support each month; after the boy turns 18, he will only have to pay $600. In addition, he will finance the boy's schooling and medical expenses, provide Charlene Jeffs's son with a car, and contribute up to $2,000 per month to help with two-thirds of her housing expenses.

Jeffs was born in the United States, on January 17, 1960. His full name is Lyle Steed Jeffs.  Lyle's parents are Rulon Jeffs and Marilyn Steed. As Lyle, Rulon was a fundamentalist. In fact, he was the president and the leader of FLDS.

Lyle grew up in a polygamous family. His father, Rulon, had 65 wives and approximately 60 children. As aforementioned, Jeffs's family was equivalent to the British Royal family, he had a certain privilege over most other members of the church.

The known siblings of Jeffs are Warren Jeffs, Seth, and Nephi Jeffs. When his elder brother, Warren, was the leader of the church, Lyle was the special counselor to him.

Did Warren Jeffs Marry His Mother?

Following the death of their father, Rulon Jeffs, Warren reportedly married all of his mother's/ father's widows except for two. Two denied marrying him. While Rebecca Wall fled the FLDS compound, the other was prohibited from marrying again. He had at least 60 kids of which, Rachel Jeffs is one.

This greatly helped in solidifying his position in the community. In addition to this Warren married two teenage girls, one of whom is Millie Blackmore, citing they were his spiritual wives. In 2006, he was on the ten most wanted list of the FBI. Warren was sentenced to life in prison, plus twenty years, and fined $10,000
