Not everyone gets to be current presiding bishop and primate of The Episcopal Church. Michael Curry is one of the luckiest people to serve as the head bishop in England. 

Curry is the first African American to serve as presiding bishop in The Episcopal Church. He was previously bishop of the Diocese of North Carolina. Michael has been working as a priest since 1978.

Michael Curry's Early Life and Career

Michael Curry was born as Michael Bruce Curry on March 13, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois. He seems to be the only child born to Dorothy and the Rev. Kenneth Curry. His mother died when he was young; his father and grandmother raised him. 

Curry earned a Master of Divinity degree, in 1978, from the Yale Divinity School, in association with Berkeley Divinity School. Curry was ordained deacon at St. Paul's Cathedral, Buffalo, New York, by the Rt. Rev. Harold B. Robinson in June 1978.
