The 57-year-old politician and physician, Rand Paul has been the Junior U.S Senator of Kentucky since 2011. Paul, a Republican, is currently one of the closest allies of President Donald Trump. Further, he was one of the first Congress members in 2016 who opposed the Saudi Arabian-led intervention in Yemen.

Rand Paul was born on January 7, 1963, in Pennsylvania to father, Ron Paul, a former U.S Representative of Texas. His mother, Carol, raised him alongside her other four kids.

After the senator announced having coronavirus on March 22, 2020, he faced wide criticism from fellow colleagues and politicians. Two weeks before his announcement, Paul attended a black-tie social event in Louisville, Kentucky, where several guests have now tested positive for COVID-19. Like the senator, Mario Diaz-Balart and Ben McAdams became the first two Congress lawmakers to tested positive.

Paul's decision to not stay in self-quarantine brought him major criticism, as mentioned. The senior U.S Senator from Arizona , Kyrsten Sinema slammed him via a tweet. In reply, he released a statement: "For those who want to criticize me for lack of quarantine, realize that if the rules on testing had been followed to a tee, I would never have been tested and would still be walking around the halls of the Capitol."

The junior United States Senate is living a happy married life with his longtime spouse Kelley Paul. Rand and Kelley first met on 1988, at the backyard oyster road, when he was on the surgical rotation. 

The pair soon fell in love and started dating. After two years of their relationship, Rand and Kelley tied the knot on October 20, 1990, and they settled in Kentucky.

Since their nuptials, Rand and Kelley share three children, three of them are sons named William Paul (born in 1992), Duncan (born in 1997), and Robert (born in 2000). Furthermore, Kelley also assists Rand mailing for his practice and newsletters.

Rand was a member of the secret organization, The NoZe Brotherhood.

After graduating from Baylor Univeristy, Paul was involved in honors programs. Meanwhile, he also spent some time at Baylor and was a member of a secret organization, The NoZe. 

Moreover, he also worked at The Baylor Lariat student newspaper. Later, Rand left the Baylor without receiving his baccalaureate degree after he was accepted at his father's alma mater, the Duke University School of Medicine. 

Rand Paul's Political Activism

When Paul was at Baylor University, he was the head of the local chapter of the Young Conservative of Texas. Later in 1984, he took a semester off to help in his father's primary challenge to Republican Senator Phil Gramm.

When Rand was at the Duke School of Medicine, he also volunteered his father;'s 1988 Libertarian presidential campaign. Additionally, in 2014, Rand joined the Tea Party-affiliated conservative advocacy group named FreedomWorks.

Currently serving as the Junior United States Senator, Paul is also known for writing books about politics. His first book titled The Tea Party Goes to Washington, which came out in 2011.
