Steve completed his primary and secondary education from Thomas A. Edison Voc and Tech High School based in New York City. Later, he went to pursue bodybuilding following his high school graduation. Likewise, Bob Morales did not completed his higher studies.
Steve's Professional Career as a Body Builder
Brooklyn, New York native, Steve competed and came in 3rd position at the Teenage Mr. America - AAU in 1968. Later, he won the Mr. Western New York State competition in 1969.
Steve numerous bodybuilding competitions in 1971, including Mr. Apollo, and Mr. USA. Moreover, he became the Most Muscular after winning Mr. America title in 1972. He also competed in Grand Prix, Night of Champions, and World Pro Championships.
Michalik frequently made his guest appearance on The Mike Douglas Show from 1972 to 1975. After retirement from his professional bodybuilding, he made a biographical documentary, Pumping Iron II: The Women in 1985.
Steve, further, starred in the comedy talk-show, The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch in 2004. He also acted in many TV movie documentaries, Adventures in Time: the National Geographic Millennium Special, The Man Whose Arms Exploded and Science of Steroids.

Michalik Suffered Health Issues Before His Tragic Death!
Thomasina Competello Michalik' late husband, Steve faced many health problems during his bodybuilding career. Due to his steroid intakes, his bodybuilding coach advised him to take retirement from bodyweight lifting in 1980s.
Steve used to take steroids during bodybuilding competitions, which later gave him a heart attack, baseball-size liver tumors, and kidney disease. He had gone through a kidney transplant surgery in 2011.
Following the operation, Michalik quit the use of steroids and started to live a healthy life. He also continued to train and motivate many young and aspirant bodybuilders at his gym.
However, Steve was still fighting the depression for many years after he stopped taking the steroids pills. Later, he decided to end his life by shooting himself from the gunshot to the wound. Moreover, his wife, Thomasina found him dead at their house on 24th May 2012.
