Her father, Des has founded the Ducktrap River Fish Farm Inc. and is former CEO of the multinational corporation ContiGroup.

Fitzgerald has a younger brother, Ryan FitzGerald. Also, she has two half-brothers, Alexander FitzGerald and Cooper FitzGerald from her dad second marriage to Lucinda Ziesing, the actress. Moreover, she attended the Concord Academy and is a graduate of the Tisch School of the Arts of NYU where she studied drama at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting.
