People living on the island were used to hunting, fishing, and gathering food, and Gary was skilled in all these activities. Gary showcased his survival skills on the reality show called "Life Below Zero: Port Protection."

Gary excelled in trapping animals, showcasing his expertise in the show by setting traps and using his century-old fishing boat to catch fish. Gary lived alone on the island with his pet and would sustain himself by using his extreme survival skills.

In 2015, National Geographic made a show called "Life Below Zero: Port Protection." It's about people living in Port Protection, Alaska. They face tough conditions without roads, government, or police.

Gary was a prominent part of the show. He was a cast member from the time the show premiered in 2015. The show showcased his extreme survival skills. On the show, Gary lays traps with his pet dog, Trapper. The name Trapper is quite ironic cause he accompanies his master while laying traps.

Muehlberger has been a central cast member of the show since season one. In the show, he showcases his self-taught subsistence survival skills, particularly in trapping. Gary is well respected in Alaska cause of his expertise in survival and legendary status within the community.

Trapper, Gary's Furry Companion

Trapper is the name of Gary's pet dog. Gary lived along with Trapper on the remote island. Wherever Gary goes, his pet dog is sure to accompany him. Even in the Nat Geo series, Trapper and Gary are always together.

Trapper is a Labrador Akita and has a thick brown coat. Gary and Trapper live on an icy island. Trapper stays warm thanks to his thick coat. Trapper would never leave his master alone. Be it hunting or laying traps, Trapper, would always be with this master.

However, their relationship ended in March 2021 due to an unfortunate event. Gary's house in Port Protection burned down, taking Gary's life. Thankfully, Trapper escaped the fire unharmed.

Tragic Incident Which Took Gary's Life

In March 2015, an unfortunate incident took place. Gary's house located in Port Protection burned down and took Gary's life. The reason for the fire was reported to be due to a fuel leak. Due to Gary living in a remote area, people didn't notice the fire. It was only after the house was burned down that they noticed.

People in the village were very upset as they knew Gary well from the reality series. An investigation was done and the fire wasn't on purpose. Although, it was hard for officials to figure out what happened because the weather was bad. 

Gary was always accompanied by his pet dog. Fortunately, his pet escaped and made it out alive. Gary's pet, Trapper did not leave his master even once and was thought to have burned in the fire. However, Trapper was found by the fire department shortly after their investigation.
